2007 Assembly Joint Resolution

Relating to: Seymour, Wisconsin, as the home of the hamburger,
Whereas, Seymour, Wisconsin, is the right home of the hamburger; and,
Whereas, other accounts of the origination of the hamburger trace back only so far as the 1880s, while Seymour’s claim can be traced to 1885; and,
Whereas, Charles Nagreen, also known as Hamburger Charlie, of Seymour, Wisconsin, began calling ground beef patties in a bun “hamburgers” in 1885; and,
Whereas, Hamburger Charlie first sold his world-famous hamburgers at age 15 at the first Seymour Fair in 1885, and later at the Brown and Outagamie county fairs; and,
Whereas, Hamburger Charlie employed as many as eight people at his famous hamburger tent, selling 150 pounds of hamburgers on some days; and,
Whereas, the hamburger has since become an American classic, enjoyed by families and backyard grills alike; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature declare Seymour, Wisconsin, the Original Home of the Hamburger.

  • A car show will be displayed adjacent to the grounds.
  • The Seymour Community Museum featuring hamburger memorabilia will be open all day.
  • Entry to the festival grounds includes access to the museum and model railroad display.

Keep these facts in mind when in Seymour for the Burger Fest:
  • There is no charge for the balloon ascensions on Friday or Saturday.
  • The balloons will be launched providing the weather is appropriate.
  • All balloon launchings take place on the Seymour High School grounds located on southern Seymour just north of Highway 54.
  • Plenty of food is available on the school and fest grounds.
  • Admission to the downtown Burger Fest area requires a button. These may be purchased from Seymour area merchants for $3 in advance and $5 at the gate.
  • For safety's sake, please leave all pets at home.
  • This event takes place utilizing all volunteer help. All proceeds go toward scholarships and community projects.
  • Abundant lodging is available in Green Bay (15 miles) and the Fox Cities (15 miles). The closest facilities include:
